Hobbies - Walking/Cycling/Amateur Radio ..

Introduction

I've had the domain redwing-it.com for a long time and used it to display my small business website aimed at Windows PC servicing and advice.

When I decided, initially due to the Covid pandemic, to firstly cut down the services I offered - then finally close the business completely - I wondered if I should retain the domain name. It's a reminder of one of my favourite migratory birds and so I decided to keep it! 😀

I've designed web sites both for friends, and commercially, over many years and currently have a blog site - which covers a favourite hobby of mine - amateur radio - and other radio and TV disciplines:

Amateur radio and other stuff ! (g8vvy.blogspot.com)

I also have a solely amateur radio dedicated page on:

and a further one on:

I was extremely fortunate to have a very varied professional background; working in a number of different industries:
  • I initially trained as a Food Technologist and worked for Unilever and, (what was), the Milk Marketing Board.
  • I then had a complete change of scene and spent 5 years in radio model control equipment; bespoke 459 MHz UHF PWM (pulse width modulation) systems. After the departure of the instigator and sole designer, I took over running of the business and was involved with assembly, calibration & test and sales.
  • Next followed a 15 year period in flow, and related, measurement - electromagnetic/mass/ultrasonic/vortex shedding flowmeters; level measurement; dissolved Oxygen measurement and heat. I initially ran a small assembly shop; during which I also built a signal converter calibration and test rig. Later on, I worked in technical sales and support. Whilst out on a service job in the Brent oil field; I had an opportunity to go down to the sea bed in the rig service leg lift!

  • Next was temperature and pressure measurement probes working as office manager/technical sales and support.
  • Then; environmental monitoring systems, providing both contracts management and IT support. I wrote, and managed, the neccessary documentation to achieve ISO 9000 and produced an equipment tendering application.
  • I then moved into 3PL (3rd party logistics) and provided mainly 2nd line - some 3rd line - IT support. I started with Novell Netware then migrated to MS Small Business Server and each of the then current MS Server and Windows Client versions.
  • My penultimate job was in Telehealth. 2nd line field based support; working with COPD and CHF patients in a technical capacity.
  • I finished things off with 4 years in Technology services as a Technical Support Engineer, managing the helpdesk of a networking and data analysis Company and providing day to day Windows client support to a group of carehomes.
Minimalist amateur radio setup!
